Restored!  August 2003

When Curt, my husband asked, "Why don't you recover my airplane?", I thought he was joking.  Then I realized he was serious and thought, "Why not?"   Thus started a 10 month adventure into the world of yesteryear.

It was time to start with a little research.  The best placed seemed to be the internet.  Thank goodness for the f-AA (fearless Aeronca Aviators) and their listserv.  I received a lot of sound advice and some heckling.  A great deal of the credit also goes to a very patient IA who spent many hours teaching me about fabric and paint.

So many people helped in my quest to return the Chief to her original glory.  It was an honor to meet many old-timers from Ohio who had knowledge of the first Chief to roll off of the factory floor.  A great video of the factory was recently put on DVD and is available at  the Aeronca website.
